Beam-Ball Help
Controls:
Arrow Keys: Movement
Shift: Cut Beam
You control the yellow beam-ball, which emits a yellow force beam.
Its effects on the ball depend on the mode of the ball.
When the ball is not moving, it will slowly rotate.
On contact with a force beam, the ball will be drawn in towards the beam-ball. This is attract mode.
If both player's beams are in contact with the ball, it will be drawn towards the center of the two.
Consequently, if this happens, the best strategy is to head away from the other player
and towards the goal, so as to move the center towards the goal.
If the ball makes contact with the beam-ball of one of the players, it will go into orbit mode,
and will spin around without moving in any particular direction. Two new strategies are possible:
-When the ball spins around, it will at some stage be facing the goal. At this point, use Shift to cut your beam and send the ball towards the goal. Watch out for the enemy player, though. Remember the ball will only travel a certain distance on its own before stopping.
-If the ball is near the edge of the arena, it may bounce off the wall repeatedly as it spins, moving around the edge of the arena clockwise by bounces. It is very hard in these conditions for the oposing player to capture the ball, but getting the ball to the edge may be difficult.
The Computer Player
The computer player obeys three simple rules:
1. If the ball is not in the human player's beam, and facing the goal, and in orbit mode, cut beam.
2. If the ball is in the computer player's beam, move towards the correct goal.
3. If the ball is not in the computer player' beam, move towards the ball.
To get the ball away from the computer player:
1. If the ball is in 'attract' mode:
-Simply move towards the goal, away from the computer player. This will move the center nearer to the goal. If you stay still, the computer player will always be able to get away with the ball.
OR:
-Touch the ball with your beam-ball, to send the ball into 'orbit' mode. The computer player is less well adapted to handling orbit mode, especially when the human player is holding it. (See 2)
2. If the ball is in 'orbit' mode:
-Make sure your beam is touching the ball; the computer player won't use cut beam to send the ball away.
-The computer player will move towards the goal until its beam loses contact with the ball, then back to the ball until it makes contact again, etc. Wait until the computer player is away from the ball and has not got its beam on it, AND the ball is facing towards the desired direction, which is probably the goal; then use Shift (cut beam) to send the ball in that direction.
3. When the ball isn't held by either player:
-You can block the computer player by simply trying to get in its way. This will slow or even stop it, and the ball can continue on its merry way. :D
-If the ball isn't moving, start by getting the ball. ;)
Game Over:
The game ends when the timer runs out, or the computer player gets 10 goals, whichever happens first.
Your score is equal to the number of goals scored in the computer player's goal, minus the number of goals scored in your goal.
